What’s Going On

Tag: Just for FunChris @ 10:28 am

This is the first in, what will probably be, many posts that has no particular order or reason. All thoughts and opinions are my own (or at least I stole them and told myself them enough to believe them) and are in the particular order in which they come to my mind.

- I think I just picked up a new project for myself. My wife’s cousin BJ has been making movies with the family for a couple years now (it actually started with my bro-in-law Patrick, but BJ is the director and cameraman, so…). In each movie, almost all (or all) of the family is in the movie, then we have a big premiere night. We tried to convince him to go to film school, but he chose SEOSU (not enough room for that background story). Anyway, I think I’m going to set him up with a website. He’s got some pretty good movies (considering they are basically glorified family films) and I think he should have a place to showcase them. I employed the help of my brother-in-law Eric to help me out. Hopefully we can get some ideas hashed out this weekend.

- I’m also in the process of getting a second version of Commercial Realty Parnters website going. It’s still in the design stage.

- My mom’s birthday is tomorrow. Big surprise coming in that one!!!

- Is $25/year for a Flikr account really worth it when you have your own website? Maybe it is. A lot of people have a Flikr section on their websites that display random pictures.

- I’m dying to get into PHP and MySQL, but at the same time, when I sit down to read my book, I always get tired.

- My cousin-in-law’s flag football team (of which I am the offensive coordinator) is off to a 2-0 start. Our last game was against the (supposebly) best team in the 4-team league and we won 19-12. After a rough start (I think we had like 4 fumbles and an INT in the first 2 drives - btw, fumbles are dead balls), we managed to come back in the second half and pull one out. It was then I realized that I’m way too competitive to coach a little league team. I’d rather win than play everybody at every position. However, it seems that most of our parents would rather us win that play their kids at every position as well. So maybe it’ll work out.

- My father-in-law just had heart surgery. He had a stint put in one of his arteries that had 90% blockage at one point and 40% at another point. He seems to be doing fine after 2 days and I heard he’s up and around and maybe coming up to work. **UPDATE: He just walked in, ready to work.

- The weather here is awesome right now. 62 degrees and sunny. We opened the windows last night and slept with 3 blankets on us. It was wonderful!!!

- I think I picked up yet another project for myself. I’ve been browsing blogs and I’ve come across several designers that I like to read and I like (most of) their stuff: Avalonstar, JustKyle, SonSpring, just to name a few. And two of them do T-shirt designs. So…I think I’m going to do a T-shirt design for our next NoMo Invitational. Our NoMo Invitational is a competition (usually tennis or bowling) where we divide the family into teams and the winners get to take home the Golden Rackets that my wife made. Anyway, I think we can divide the teams and maybe do some color-coded T-Shirts. Although for tennis we have like 8 teams (we play doubles), so some poor team is going to get stuck with like pink, fuschia, or magenta.

I think that’s it. Anything else, leave me a comment.

Favorite Cousin

Tag: FamilyChris @ 2:21 pm

Almost since we’ve been married, my wife and I have been sparring over our (Jen’s cousin, my cousin-in-law) Melanie. She is a high-powered exec in Beverly Hills who is one of the funnest relatives we have (her mom is right up there with her, too).

It all started when I built her company’s website. Apparently, Jen and Mel have had this Italian, sisterhood kick-thing going for a while. But after I built the website, Jen was uprooted as the coveted “Favorite Cousin.” From that point on, we have been duking it out to see who can win the heart of this person who lives 2 time zones away.

Honestly, I’d have to say that I have the upper-hand - and as soon as Mel reads this, she’ll come back and say that I don’t b/c she has to keep my ego in check (at least that is what she says). Every time Jen comes up with something clever (and she always does), I just throw down the trump card - geek skills. I’m usually updating her site or getting pictures to show up correctly or hooking video cameras up to TVs.

Anyway, she’s been razzing me about getting her on this site (see comments under the “Family” category), so I obliged. Even though I won back the crown of “Favorite” no more than 5 minutes ago for updating her website, I figured I could give her the dubious honor of appearing on the ever-popular SolidRoots.com. So here’s to you, Melanie. Welcome to the SR club.

And to me, for securing the crown even further.

First Laughs

Tag: FamilyChris @ 8:15 pm

Here are a couple videos of Trinity laughing for the first time (actually it’s the second and third times - we didn’t actually get the first one on video). I tried to cut them down as much as possible, but there’s not a lot you can do without making it totally choppy. Oh well. Enjoy.

Trinity Laughing
Trinity Laughing (again)

I hope you appreciate the fact that I didn’t stream them. :P
