Losing My Cool

Tag: FamilyJen @ 3:37 pm

Okay, so the past three posts have been about heavy metal bands, video games, and web browsers, and not one of them was posted by me. Surprised? Of course you’re not. Why? Because you know that I am not a nerd. Okay, so maybe I have been sucked in to the geek world just a bit (evidenced heavily by the fact that I am even writing this, and maybe by an incident involving GAP.com and Opera) but I still consider myself part of the “cool kids” group.

Lately, I don’t know if it is age (just turned 26), or being at home 24/7 (just had a kid), or spending the last 730 days married to Chris (2 year anniversary coming on Jan 1), but I am feeling the “coolness” slowly and surely slipping away from me. The fact that I can have semi-intelligent conversations about computer specs is one thing, but when coupled with the fact that I saw the Harry Potter movie in its opening weekend I have to wave a little red flag. It’s not that I am all-together a nerd just yet, I am just running low on coolness. (Okay, if it is any indication, I so almost used the analogy of an old school Sega game where you have to give “Wonder Boy” fruit to keep up his vitality…I am quickly spiralling out of controll!)

…I am not sure how to recover from that.

I used to be extremely concerned with my “cool kid” image but I guess the only one I am fooling is myself. My husband knows all too well my inner nerd. My inlaws have seen the epitome of anti-cool Jen in displays involving cold lasagna, pop-corn bags, white trucks, and quail calls. My child watches me make the most insane faces and gestures to get her to laugh and responds with the most solomn blank stare you have ever seen. Yeah, pretty much the secret is out…I’m losing my cool. If you have seen it anywhere could you please return it?

Here is a WARNING for all cool people out there (mainly girls): If you see a cute guy that seems really nice but a little on the nerdy side and you want to get to know him….BEWARE! Don’t stare directly at the irresistably adorable spiky hair! Look away or you too will be sucked in! Save yourselves!!!!! Engage at the risk of losing your cool!

FireFox 1.5

Mozilla.com

Just announced today, Firefox 1.5 has officially launched!

Honestly, I’ve been waiting for this for probably 2 months now. I actually went to their site this morning, and I noticed it was different but didn’t give it much thought. I then found a link and downloaded it right away. I must say, it’s FF is the best browser out there (sorry Jen).

I won’t go into all the details, but it’s a good upgrade. I just wish there wasn’t a little purple arrow when you move tabs around.

Dear Mozilla,

You have the best browser out there in Firefox. As soon as Thunderbird comes out and they support the Calendar, I’m going to switch to it, too.

Please take a note from the Opera browser and make the moving tabs transparent, rather than putting a little purple arrow in place.

You guys rock!

Sincerely,

Chris

Banned Xbox Commercial

This seriously has to be one of the most creative commercials I think I’ve ever seen. Apparently it was “too violent,” although there are no guns or blood.

Hilarious.
