Halloween

Halloween has come and gone without much fanfare around my house or neighborhood. I’m not real big on Halloween. Not because “it’s evil” or anything. I just never liked walking around asking people for candy. It’s just kinda a weird premise. Everything we’re taught or we teach our kids is completely reversed on Halloween:

  • Never go to a stranger’s house.
    • That’s the first thing you have to do!
  • Never take anything a stranger gives you.
    • Gimme some candy!
  • Don’t go out after dark (for the younger kids).
    • We can’t go trick-or-treating yet, it’s still light outside.
  • Be nice to people (for the older kids).
    • Nobody’s home. Let’s egg/toilet paper/light doggy doo on fire on the porch and ring the doorbell/etc. the house.

Actually, my favorite Halloween pasttime is handing out candy for about, say, 15 mins. Then we turn off all the lights in our house and hide in my parent’s bedroom and watch a movie. All four of us (Mom, Dad, brother, and myself) would hang out, eat popcorn and leftover candy and watch a good flick.

I can’t wait to start something like that with my wife and baby girl.
