WordPress 2.0

If you actually come to the site (rather than an RSS reader), you’ll notice that this blog goes way back before we actually had the name “SolidRoots.” That’s because WordPress 2.0 is awesome!

I’m not going to get into all the details of WP 2.0 because 1) I don’t have the time, and 2) I don’t know all of them. I will tell you about the ones that effect me the most though.

First, WP 2.0 allows you to import old blogs from several sources (Movable Type, Blogger, Textpattern, and an RSS feed). That’s how we got all these old posts. I used Blogger to power ChrisandJenn.net’s blog. WP will log into your account, get your old database and reformat it to fit into WP. How cool is that?! It gave funky number titles to posts that didn’t have a clear title and it put every post under the “Family” category, but it only took me 30 mins or so to fix all of those. So now you can browse even farther back into our lives!

WP 2.0 also has some cool AJAX stuff. The post page has probably got to be the most updated. You can change the height of the text box that I’m typing into right now. You can add post categories on the fly, and minimize all the different toolbars so they take up less room. I know you probably don’t understand unless you see it, but it’s really cool - trust me.

They also added a WYSIWYG editor, so it’s easier to see what your post is really going to look like. Although, it’s kind of tedious since I already know HTML, but I’m sure Jen will appreciate it (when she gets to blogging again).

If you have a blog, I recommend WP 2.0, but that’s just because I’ve only used it and Blogger, and it’s waaay better than Blogger. If you don’t have a site, I suggest going through Dreamhost. They are awesome. They have good rates and they are always adding on to your plan. Recently, they just quadrupled my bandwidth for life! They have already upgraded my storage. Plus, they have a program that lets you refer people and you get paid for people that you refer. So if you sign up, tell them SolidRoots send you. Go now! The sooner you get in, the sooner you be getting cool stuff.

Okay, back? They’ll install WP 2.0 for you (for free) in 10 mins or less! Just go to your “One-click install” tab and tell them to do it. It’s seriously that easy.

    What? No P.O.D. album review on the day it drops?? And you call yourself a warrior? Bah!

    I know. I just got it the other day. I’m so ashamed. BTW - It is a great album. I heard it on The Leak on MTV.com, and I wasn’t so sure about it. But it is amazing!
