Show #12: Now in HD!
Posted by Chris | Filed under Apple, College, Current Events, Entertainment, Just for Fun, Lost, Random, Sports, Technology
Welp, we’re still alive and back with our yearly show.
If you haven’t heard, we’ve upgraded our equipment to bring you this podcast in stunning HD.
We say that we’re going to get this out because we’re lean and mean and just the two of us. Dave is trying to get elected and Willie is, well…, not here.
Topics:
- Current college football
- The Apple announcement
- Lost - sort of.
First off - some college football. Basically we diss on the OU “Shouldn’t It Be UO” Sooners because they somehow pay off manage to get ranked #1 in the initial BCS poll. Apparently the computers like the Sooners while humans prefer Ducks. And ducks. Because, really, who likes cheaters…
We try to figure out the BCS computer rankings.
Past Rankings x Present Rankings / Future Rankings + pi (not the dessert) + the historical rankings of the school x the amount of money the school could make the NCAA= Strength of Schedule
Done. Boom.
Now to OState. We throw around a bunch of stats that make us sound competent. EJ then goes on to prove to Chris several of his points - how Holgerson was actually the OC at Houston; how the Cowboys are more pass efficient and throw down the field better than Hawaii and Houston; while OSU has had some great athletes at QB, they’ve never really had a pure passer that could pinpoint the ball until Weeden; and how Bobby Reid makes us sad.
Moving on from college football to college football babies - we give Lane Kiffin entirely too much airtime - as any is too much.
Now, This Week in Cowboy Football!
Welcome to America’s Largest Homecoming Celebration: OSU takes on Nebraska for probably the last time in the regular season. We again throw around all kinds of stats to try and prove that the Cowboys will win the game without taking the field.

Show #11: BEST SHOW EVER!
Posted by Chris | Filed under Current Events, Don't Even Think About It, Entertainment, iPhone, Just for Fun, Politics, Random, Sports, Technology
Hosts EJ Hayes, Willie Hayes, Chris Armstrong, and… Dave Bond… eventually…
Since it takes us more than 6 months to get these shows out, all of the technology news is waaaay outdated… Especially with the cell phone market the way it is. We’ll start off with the Blackberry Kickstart – a RAZR/BB hybrid.
And Dave decides that we’re good enough for him to comingle with…
Back to the Kickstart, which is actually the flip BB, aimed at the mass market. We run through the boring specs which have already been doubled by the new versions. Look at the monkey instead.
Willie interjects with Anecdote #1: His father-in-law bought a BB, even though he doesn’t have a computer or an email address. He bought it, however, so that he can email and text his kids, which he apparently does successfully. Nice – albeit a little premature. EJ adds that he uses his BB instead of his computer to do email, even though he’s at his computer.
After the short interruption, we discuss how Blackberry should market their products so that they have more mass appeal. Hopefully RIM will listen to us. We have GREAT suggestions.

Next up: BATMAN!!! POW! ZONK! KA-CHOW!
http://movies.nytimes.com/2008/07/18/movies/18knig.html?ref=movies
Despite Willie not having seen the movie, we talk about it, without spoiling it for him. Chris offers up his one-word review: TheAnimatedSeriesGrownUp. HA! We then decide that the animated series was the Dick Tracy of our day.
Instead of talking about The Dark Knight, we end up talking about Batman: The Animated Series. We also agree that Two-Face was probably the best villain in the animated series.
We can’t help but reminiscing about our childhood and talking about our favorite characters and episodes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_the_animated_series
Moving on, again, since Willie hasn’t seen The Dark Knight at the time of recording: Christian Bale beats his mother and sister. EJ’s theory is that Bale couldn’t get out of Batman persona. “I am Batman!” “Christian, come down off the TV, man.” “No! I am Batman!”
http://omg.yahoo.com/news/bale-asks-for-privacy-in-assault-allegations/11227
Besides the fact he couldn’t stop being Batman, he was also a psycho in American Psycho (and an American – even though he’s from England) and a FREAKING NEWSIE!!! THE MAIN NEWSIE! But definitely see The Prestige.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104990/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/
Chris didn’t remember the jacked-up-ness of Batman in American Psycho, though Batman’s jacked-up-ness in Newsies is forever seared in his mind for reasons totally unrelated to the film. Fortunately, Batman’s performance in The Prestige totally redeemed himself.
NOTICE: We’re still working on bluenotestudios.com. Seriously.
EJ then busts out a great impression of Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
The relationship between solidroots.com and bluenotestudios.com is the relayed in no uncertain terms. Also, the history of Blue Note Studios and the inspiration is conveyed.
Next NCAA Football 09: Not for the Wii.
No high-def + crappy controller + low processing power + gimmicky interface = not impacting the game.
Not impacting the game = dudes that aren’t into gaming + chicks = the casual gamer
And we reminisce about Madden days of yore (and we realized that the reason he brought up the topic was so he could relive his dominance, particularly at Dave’s expense). What kind of gamers are we? Dave is the Bills, Willie is probably the Sooners (can play when it doesn’t count, but can’t finish up when it counts), Chris is creative type – out of necessity, and EJ is Bill Parcells (controls everything).
Now that Windows 7 is about to drop, we bring up the Mojave Experient, also known as off-the-shelf Vista. Microsoft did a blind taste test to prove that Vista doesn’t have a bad aftertaste that Mac fanboys claim.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mojave-experiment/
http://www.webmonkey.com/blog/Blind_Taste_Test_Shows_XP_Users_Love_Vista
Willie goes on to defend(er) Vista – because he’s one of 7 people that have actually used it at the time of recording. The number is now up at 23. An invigorating conversation ensues about Vista, Mac, OS X, Microsoft’s marketing campaigns, and Microsoft as Christian Bale; leading into an in-depth dicussion of the empirical, metaphysical, and ontological aspects of each. Dave is stunningly quiet.
Willie’s Anecdotes: (they are so good, we can only give you the titles and lessons)
iPhone and the college campus. Lesson: always check your trap door. And caress your quirky girl slowly.
Obama goes to Iraq, Germany, and my soul. Lesson: Copy JFK. To a point. But not the German.
Perfect segue into the media bashing of Dave, because they are liberal fascists idealists. Actually Dave eloquently points out the differences of liberals vs conservatives and idealists vs realists. Chris admits he’s not a fascist an idealist.
Willie busts out another anecdote about a straight pin and it going somewhere it shouldn’t.
Dave loves us (and you). And he means it.
Outro: acoustic Hollow recorded at Blue Note Studios. http://www.myspace.com/hollowrock

Show 10: Fine Pickens
Posted by Chris | Filed under Apple, Books, Current Events, Entertainment, Just for Fun, Misc. Things, Music, Random, Technology
E.J. promises “an action-packed show,” but you can only know for sure if you listen…
Willie seems to perhaps question the efficacy of the “Pickens Plan” for solving the nation’s energy problems. During the ensuing discussion of the potential of wind power, E.J. takes the opportunity to make a dirty joke. Willie keeps it going. Chris provides his silent, tacit consent to the filth.
Chris introduces the inherent contradictions about T. Boone faced by many fans of Oklahoma State athletics (and of affordable gas): loving his donations to the school while distrusting the control that comes with it; appreciating his call to action on the energy issue while distrusting his motives. But what else would one expect?
EJ thinks we’re going to keep our vision on this story as it un”wind”s. Stay tuned for further details. www.PickensPlan.com
“1.21 Gigawatts!”
In other news, crazy monkey grass is creeping in from Canada, destroying slinging metal things and edger attachments all over the north!
“They don’t call me ‘The Edge’ for nothin’”
Willie passes along a way for you to tell when one is going to die and whether you’ll die of a horrible disease or not. For more information, check your genome at home with PCR and cloning machines. All available via a USB connection. Willie also thinks it’s fun to pee on a stick to see if you have a “mutant genome in your genes” (or jeans).
EJ next brings up how South Park gives hope for all of the nerds out there that want to be superheroes in stopping terrorist attacks. We’re not sure what episode of South Park gives the “how-to” but there’s one out there. Trust us. Using Google Earth, Myspace and podcasts, you can stop your 4th grade classmates from blowing up the world too!
“They don’t even say ‘search for it on the Internet,’ they say ‘Google it’”
Where did Google come from? What does “google” mean? How does Google make so much freaking money?!?! Well, apparently it can all be summed up in one word: Ads. Or is there something more sinister going on? Dave joins in and give us 41 chapters worth of conspiracy to throw Google in the middle of international intrigue and cover-up.
Dave believes Google is very intrusive and this is view is that Google will be (if not already) a tool of Big Brother.

“You can get this podcast around the world!”
“Oh, I’m down the rabbit-hole baby.”
You’re now introduced to our very early reports on MobileMe, the Apple product that stole its logo from Windows Me.
“What if the cloud rains? What if they hack into the cloud?”
Dave proceeds to tempt us with, not cereal, but a “frozen thing.” Yet, he doesn’t share at all… Yet, we’re keeping our other eye on the Google/Illuminati connection.
By the way, Dave is wrong, it’s only been 2 months since the movie has been released, not 3. Not 3, Dave.
A discussion ensues about how/why the movie was filmed. IMAX has a 6-inch negative while using 6-feet per second of film. A bunch of stuff about “dumbing-down” and something about a “Blue Ray.” In case you didn’t notice, Chris zones out.
Thanks to Rush for listening to us 6 months ago, you music freak you. We’ve actually recieved another email from Rush asking when our next show will be up. Here it is, Rush.
